  15. ANNOUNCING PAGESTREAM 3.2 FOR AMIGA!
  16. ------------------------------------
  17.  
  18. Some Amiga users had speculated that SoftLogik would leave the Amiga
  19. market after releasing 3.1, but SoftLogik has announced that it would
  20. continue to support Amiga computers. PageStream 3.2 for Amiga is
  21. available now.
  22.  
  23. "PageStream 3.2 is an example of our continuing commitment to our Amiga
  24. customers" said Deron Kazmaier. "I'd like to thank our customers who have
  25. stuck with us through the last couple of years. The only way we can
  26. continue to support them is if we release regular upgrades. We've been
  27. listening to their requests and have added some of the most popular
  28. features."
  29.  
  30. PageStream 3.2 includes the following new features:
  31.  
  32. - Configurable Toolbar: You can now add and remove buttons in
  33. PageStream's toolbar. Buttons with unique icons are included for many of
  34. PageStream's menu commands. Extra buttons are included so that you can
  35. assign their own scripts to buttons. You can also add and remove space
  36. between buttons.
  37.  
  38. - Show/Hide Toolbar: If you don't want to use the toolbar, you can close
  39. it to reserve more space for your documents.
  40.  
  41. - Eyedropper Tool: Copy and paste text and object attributes. Click with
  42. the Eyedropper tool to "pick up" attributes, and then click elsewhere to
  43. "paste" attributes.
  44.  
  45. - Hanging Indent button: Click this button to set the first line and left
  46. indents to automatically create a hanging indent at the next tab stop.
  47. Click again to unindent the text.
  48.  
  49. - Increase and Decrease Indent buttons: Click these buttons to indent
  50. text to the right and left. When used with the Hanging Indent button, you
  51. can easily create nested hanging indents.
  52.  
  53. - Default Tab Spacing: You can now change the default tab spacing for any
  54. block of text from the default 0.333" to any value. This feature plays an
  55. important role with the new Indent buttons when you have not defined any
  56. tab stops.
  57.  
  58. - True Pasteboard: Objects dragged to the pasteboard will be on the
  59. pasteboard on every page in the chapter. This offers an easy method to
  60. move objects from page to page and to use objects on more than one page.
  61. You can move objects out of the way to work on other objects, and then
  62. move them back or to another page at a later time.
  63.  
  64. - Open Recent: You can now select a document to open from the last eight
  65. documents instead of searching through your hard drive for a file.
  66.  
  67. - Effect filters: BME's effect filters may now be used within PageStream.
  68. Just select a picture and click the FX button. Nine effect filters are
  69. included with PageStream and BME, including autotracing. Twelve more are
  70. available separately in the Gary's Effects package.
  71.  
  72. - Masks (irregular graphic frames): Crop graphics inside of any shape.
  73. Just draw a shape or path, select it and the graphic to mask, and choose
  74. Mask Graphic. Pictures, drawings and EPS illustrations can now be masked
  75. by any shape you can draw! Choose Release Mask to separate the mask from
  76. a masked graphic, or choose Clear Mask to delete the mask. You can also
  77. create a mask for a picture automatically with the Generate Mask command,
  78. release the mask, edit its points with the Reshape tool, and then mask
  79. the picture with the modified mask.

  81. - Matching script commands have been added for the above features.

  90. TextFX 2 Extension ($50): Warp text in shapes, bend text on curves, and
  91. convert text to graphics! There are lots of preset shapes and curves, and
  92. you can create your own, too! (Upgrade from TextFX 1 for just $25.)

  94. Gary's Effects ($25): Twelve cool new effects for BME (and PageStream
  95. 3.2!) including Convolve, Blur, Histogram, Gamma, Average, Threshold and
  96. more!

  100. Wordworth Document Filter ($20): Open entire Wordworth documents in

  128. - Fixed the printing of applied default italics to PostScript when the font
  129.   family has a real italic available.

  132. - The Font pop-up menus display much quicker now. This is primarily important
  133.   for selecting the Text tool when the Edit palette is open and many fonts
  134.   are installed.
  135. - NEW FEATURE! You can now append a fontlist file. To create multiple sets of
  136.   fontlists for different projects, add the fonts you want, save the font
  137.   preferences, rename the PageStream3.fontprefs file to something else, and
  138.   then repeat as many times as required. Your default setup should be named
  139.   PageStream3.fontprefs. When you want to append another fontlist, hold down
  140.   Shift when clicking the Add button in the Font Preferences requester and
  141.   then select the fontprefs file.
  142. - Typing with lots of installed fonts should be faster now.
  143.  
  144. OBJECTS:
  145. - Fixed the stroking of imported PageStream 2 objects.

  169. - Objects now properly snap to guides on page spreads and facing pages.
  170. - The grid is now properly displayed on page spreads based on different master

  172. - Fixed the problem with Shift clicking the Next Page button in a blank

  176. - Appending styles will now update the style list.
  177. - Tweaked the Drop Caps feature for better results. This may result in text

  181. - Improved the German and French language engines. They will now create a
  182.   deutsch.hyphenation or francais.hyphenation file for hyphenation exceptions
  183.   when you add words with Define Hyphenation. They do not yet have hyphenation
  184.   algorithms. Note that only text formatted as German or French with Set
  185.   Hyphenation will be hyphenated using these drivers.
  186. - Added more language engines. These provide localized dates, times, numbers
  187.   and smart quotes, as well as separate custom dictionaries. They do not
  188.   provide localized automatic hyphenation at this time. These engines were
  189.   translated by volunteers. Thank you!

  202.   paste to insert an inline object. Anchored objects may not be selected
  203.   with the object tool or otherwise modified. Select them by highlighting
  204.   with the text tool as you would text.
  205. - The Illustrator EPS filter now accepts Streamline generated EPS files,
  206.   because Streamline uses the Illustrator proc set.
  207. - Fixed the problem with moving some types of objects to the pasteboard. (3.2)
  208. - Fixed the display of thick dashed lines on screen at certain view
  209.   magnifications.
  210. - Fixed the display and printing of mitre corners.
  211. - Fixed the stroking of imported Art Expression drawings.

  213. PRINTING:
  214. - Fixed emulsion down (PostScript).
  215. - Printing double-sided facing pages will now automatically tile them if the
  216.   pages exactly (within 1pt) match the paper size. (ie, It now works as
  217.   expected.)
  218. - Improved the way tiling works. It worked before, but now it works more like
  219.   people seemed to want it to work.
  220. - Fixed a problem with the font cache that could cause it to crash while
  221.   printing to non-PostScript printers.
  222. - Fixed the printing of master page objects to PostScript.
  223. - Fixed the printing of applied default italics to PostScript.
  224.  
  225. INTERFACE:
  226. - Due to popular request, by default, F1 now selects the Object tool and F2
  227.   selects the Text tool. Insert Left and Right double quotes have been removed
  228.   as they are no longer needed with Smart Quotes. 
  229. - Set magnification to 120%, a popular view scale, is now set to F8 by default.
  230. - Corrected the OK button in the Information (no information for this object
  231.   type) alert.
  232. - Changed the Edit palette icon for bitmapped pictures to a paintbrush.
  233. - Made the Date gadget in Revision History wider and made the Changes Made text
  234.   gadget auto-activate when the requester opens.
  235. - Increased the minimum height of the Set Font requester.
  236. - Improved some toolbar icons.

  259. - Implemented automatic Drop Caps in Paragraph Format. (Surprise! It's back!)
  260.   This feature isn't completely finished and you will need to force a screen
  261.   redraw (press F10) after applying the format and when editing text before
  262.   the drop cap. Note: This works best with uppercase characters. Descenders
  263.   are not taken into account. This feature may need a bit more tweaking on our
  264.   part to get perfect.
  265. - Fixed the double refresh when setting tabs.
  266. - Fixed the changing of styled text to unstyled.
  267. - Fixed the loading of documents with the first character of a styled
  268.   paragraph overridden with another attribute.
  269. - Fixed problems with crashes while editing text.

  354. - Fixed several problems with an action occurring in the wrong window when
  355.   multiple windows were open.

  397. - Scaling cropped graphics with the Edit palette when the Object tool is
  398.   selected once again scales the frame and its content instead of just the
  399.   frame.
  400. - Changed shape fills to display as modified radial fills rather than as
  401.   solid fills. This gives a better preview. Shape fills are only for printing
  402.   to PostScript.
  403.  
  404. PRINTING:
  405. - Fixed the printing of spreads with Print Blank Pages off.
  406. - Print Range now takes into account the starting page number.
  407. - The page number in the thumbnail/tile/page label now takes into account the
  408.   starting page number.
  409.  
  410. INTERFACE:
  411. - Fixed the problem with the toolbar position not being remembered correctly.
  412. - Fixed the problem with the library's defaults not being loaded. This was
  413.   responsible for requesters opening more slowly.
  414.  
  415. SCRIPTS:
  416. - Updated the Set Rotation Point script to correct its interface and work
  417.   with the new coordinate result system.

  475. - NEW FEATURE! You can now set the default language, font and type size for
  476.   all new text frames and text blocks with the Preferences requester's Type

  478. - Implemented Smart Single and Double Quotes (English, German and French),
  479.   and Smart Dashes.
  480. - Implemented all remaining Outline and Shadow type style options to screen
  481.   and to all types of printers.

  495. COLORS, STYLES:
  496. - Implemented spot colors.
  497. - Implemented the knockout/overprint toggle in Define Colors.
  498. - Fixed a problem with using library-based colors.
  499. - Corrected the From and To color order for radial filled text on screen and
  500.   to non-PostScript printers.
  501.  
  502. OBJECTS:
  503. - Fixed the problem with scaling a picture which already had a mask. (The mask
  504.   was not scaled properly with the picture.)
  505. - Drawings now have borders as they used to when Show Drawings is off.
  506.  
  507. NON-POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  508. - Increased printing speed! Your results vary depending on your printer model,
  509.   port used, etc. Text-only documents will be sped up the most. Graphic only
  510.   documents will be sped up the least. In our tests, text-only documents
  511.   printed 25-50% faster. This speed increase affects all non-PostScript
  512.   printers. For even faster printing, we recommend setting the max character
  513.   size to cache in the Font Preferences requester to 55 pixels for 300dpi
  514.   printing, and 110 pixels for 600dpi printing. If you have enough memory,
  515.   double the cache memory size.
  516.  
  517. POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  518. - Added a Spot Separations option to the print Method pop-up menu in the
  519.   Print dialog box. Use this when you do not want to print CMYK plates.
  520. - Added the Plates button back to the Print dialog box.
  521. - Implemented the Plate Control dialog box.
  522.   - Implemented printing/non-printing for each plate plates.
  523.   - Implemented custom screen angles/frequencies for each plate.
  524.   - Implemented knockout/overprint for each plate.
  525.  
  526. INTERFACE:
  527. - Worked around the 3rd party graphic board bug that caused the cursor to not
  528.   be displayed in multiline text gadgets.
  529. - Made the Font requester a little taller, and set its minimum size correctly.
  530. - Fixed several keyboard shortcut conflicts in Preferences, New Document and
  531.   Master Page Setup.
  532. - Fixed the problem with the document window overlapping the toolbar when you
  533.   changed screen modes.
  534. - Made the toolbar icons 2 pixels larger in each direction.
  535.  
  536. SCRIPTING:
  537. - Fixed a small memory leak when using queries.
  538.  
  539. TEXTFX 2:

  1049. - Swapped the increase and decrease keyboard shortcuts for leading, which
  1050.   were backwards from most other text shortcuts.
  1051. - Changed some keyboard shortcuts for moving the insertion point. Refer
  1052.   to the help system for the new shortcuts. The shortcuts now adhere to
  1053.   the industry standard.
  1054. - When you create a text block (frameless text object), the baseline of
  1055.   the text block will be at the baseline of the cursor.
  1056. - Implemented the keyboard shortcuts for manual kerning.

  1080. COLORS:
  1081. - Changed the various color lists so that <Mixed> (formerly <As Is>) is
  1082.   no longer shown in the lists except when required.
  1083. - Black is no longer selected in the Color palette when no objects are
  1084.   selected.
  1085. - Fixed the problems with the color palette not being updated when you
  1086.   changed colors with the Define Colors command.

  1088. STYLES:
  1089. - Plus (+) signs are now shown for overridden styles in all style lists,
  1090.   not just in the Style palette.
  1091. - Fixed the problems with style and edit palettes not being updated when
  1092.   you changed styles with the Define Styles command.

  1094. PRINTING (ALL DRIVERS):
  1095. - Fixed the problem with PageStream taking the time to go through all
  1096.   the steps of printing even when copies was set to 0. It now forces
  1097.   number of copies to 1 if it's set to 0.
  1098.  
  1099. POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  1100. - Fixed the problem with emulsion down output being cropped incorrectly.
  1101. - Corrected the order in which some commands were issued. This may solve
  1102.   a problem with certain imagesetters that required that commands be in a
  1103.   particular order.
  1104. - When you load a PPD and the program finds a syntax error in the PPD,
  1105.   the program will attempt to continue parsing now rather than aborting.
  1106.   This may or may not produce acceptable results, but it should solve
  1107.   problems with companies such as Lexmark that continue to give out PPD
  1108.   files with typos.
  1109. - Line weights in scaled drawings now scale with the drawing when printed
  1110.   to PostScript. (This was added in 3.0i, but wasn't documented.)
  1111. - Fixed the problem with offset radial fills not printing correctly.
  1112. - Added an overwrite alert to ensure you don't accidentally overwrite an
  1113.   important file.

  1115. NON-POSTSCRIPT PRINTING & SCREEN DISPLAY:
  1116. - Mitre joins now work to non-PostScript and screen. Previously, all
  1117.   joins were beveled except to PostScript even though mitre was the
  1118.   default and most common type. Round joins display and print to non-
  1119.   PostScript as beveled joins.
  1120. - Fixed the problem with closed path points not being properly joined to
  1121.   their segments.
  1122. - Improved the display and printing of curves and wide diagonal lines.
  1123. - Dash styles are now the same size regardless of the display or printer

  1304.   typeface family and style names were merged together for compatability
  1305.   with MacOS and Windows.
  1306. OBJECT:
  1307. - NEW FEATURE! Added the Object/ Join Objects command. Rather than
  1308.   converting shapes to paths when you merge objects as the Merge Paths
  1309.   command does, this command retains the original object type so that if
  1310.   you later split the compound object, the original objects will still be
  1311.   their original object types.
  1312. - NEW FEATURE! Renamed Object/Split Paths to Split. This command now can
  1313.   now split compound objects (Join Objects) and composite paths (Merge
  1314.   Paths).
  1315. - NEW FEATURE! Added the Object/ Convert to Path command to convert any
  1316.   object to a path. (If you own the TextFX extension, this will also
  1317.   convert frameless text objects to paths just like the old Macros/

  1430. - If you need to force a screen redraw because PageStream didn't

  1432.   is assigned to F10 as the default.
  1433. - SoftLogik recommends CanonStudio or Studio II for printing on Canon
  1434.   printers. Some Canon models are supported in Epson emulation mode by
  1435.   PageStream's custom Epson driver.

  1440. - New Emboss and Sharpen effects for BME have been added! Refer to the help

  1442. - You can now do math in text gadgets in PageStream3. For example, if a
  1443.   box's left coordinate is 8.125" and you want to move it right by 0.333"
  1444.   but can't add that in your head, just enter the following into the Edit
  1445.   palette's appropriate text gadget: 8.125"+0.333. When youpress Tab or
  1446.   Return, the expression will be evaluated and its sum of 8.458" will
  1447.   appear in the text gadget. The following math operators are supported:
  1448.   + add; - subtract; * multiply; / divide; () parenthetical expressions.
  1449.   Additionally, `pi' (3.1416...) may be entered.
  1450. - Added two new popup gadgets to the Edit palette Character view for type
  1451.   size and width. This makes changing the type size more convenient.
  1452. - Added more preset type sizes and widths to the Font requester scrolling
